Calgary Central Library

Description

The Calgary Central Library is a contemporary and engaging facility that will be used for generations to come. The library engages the community through visually open spaces and comfortable lounge areas. Intermingled with books and other interactive resources are technologically advanced multi-purpose meeting spaces, lecture theatres and learning commons, children’s activity areas and maker spaces as well as cafes, recording studios and open community “living rooms”. The building’s complex geometric design and envelope are achieved by a hybrid structure of heavy-duty structural steel, truss systems, structural concrete, and exposed architectural concrete. The library serves as a cultural and collaborative meeting space, providing community and social services and support. With numerous public and private spaces, the library is a cultural landmark within busy downtown Calgary.

Canem was proud to provide all electrical, voice/data communications, fire alarm, and security systems for the state-of-the-art, award-winning public library in the heart of downtown Calgary. Our team seamlessly incorporated the lighting into the design to complement and illuminate the elegant style of the building. Impeccably built, inspiringly designed, and one of the most actively used libraries in North America.
